YOUth Empowerment Starts with YOU!

We can’t do the work without our community leaders! The advisory board is where many of the new MYPI program ideas are born. It is a place for MYPI to get feedback from our community leaders and strive to be in unity with our community.

Advisory Board Philosophy

Muslim Youth for Positive Impact started with individuals passionate about youth leadership and development.  Today MYPI is for whoever wants to make a difference while maintaining a sincere intention. The advisory board members should also be people already leading the work towards a more equitable society and passionate about youth leadership and development work in our communities. You are joining MYPI’s Advisory Board because you believe in this work.

The Mission for this Position

The Advisory board will support the work of MYPI and provide mission-based advice and strategic support. While day-to-day operations are led by MYPI’s Executive Director, and the strategic governance is led by MYPI’s Board of Directors, the Advisory Board relationship will be a partnership and the appropriate involvement of the Advisory Board is both critical and expected. Specific Advisory Member responsibilities are detailed on the following page.

Responsibilities

Term: ongoing for up to 5 years, renewed commitment yearly

Time commitment: 3 board meetings per year (February, June & November) + a few advising calls/meetings per year + optional opportunities to see our impact in action.

Leadership

1. Serve as a trusted advisor to the Executive Director as s/he develops and implements MYPI’s impact plan.

2. Assist in identifying and recruiting other Advisory Board Members as requested by the Executive Director and Advisory Board Chair.

3. Represent MYPI to stakeholders; acting as an ambassador for the organization.

4. Serve on at least one MYPI committee.

Governance & Oversight

1. Know that you are valued and a very important part of the MYPI impact

2. Review outcomes and metrics created by MYPI for evaluating its impact

3. Contribute to an annual MYPI evaluation based on MYPI’s research agenda & surveys
   

Fundraising

1. Champion MYPI’s vision.

   1. Proudly represent your support of MYPI’s vision and impact among everyone you talk to… Be a champion for our vision and make the case for others to join us.

2. Invite others to get involved and engaged.

   1. Work with the MYPI leadership team to invite qualified prospects to have a memorable experience of our impact. Expect that the MYPI leadership team will facilitate this process.

3. Invest with a commensurate commitment to help fund the vision.

   1. Every single Advisory Board Member/Champion should make an investment (in time, energy, and money) that is commensurate with their relationship, capacity, and involvement with our organization.  Advisory Board Members are strongly encouraged to be a MYPI sponsor of at least the minimum ($10 / month) amount or they may commit to bringing monthly sponsors to MYPI.

Advisory Board Member Contract

I, _________________________, understand that as a member of the Advisory Board of Muslim Youth for Positive Impact, I have an ethical responsibility to ensure that the organization receives the best advice possible in pursuit of its goals. I believe in the purpose and the mission of the organization, and I will act responsibly and prudently as its steward insha Allah. As part of my responsibilities as an advisory board member:

1. I will support the organization's mission and values and promote it to the community representing the organization.

2. I will attend at least 2 of the 3 advisory board meetings.

3. I will actively participate in at least one committee per year.

4. I will offer my skill sets and expertise to support the MYPI impact.

5. I will stay informed about what's going on in the organization. I will ask questions and request information.

6. I will work in good faith with staff and other board members as partners toward the achievement of MYPI goals.

7. I will fulfill these commitments to the organization and I will expect the advisory board chair to hold me accountable.
