What is Ramadan?

Support Muslim Students During Ramadan:

During Ramadan Muslim students may face various challenging during the school day. Students fasting abstain from food and water from sunrise to sundown. Students in the early days of Ramadan maybe extra tired or show low energy towards the afternoon part of the day. During this special time of the year observers will focus on modeling good behaviors, engage in charity work, performing daily prayers on time and engage in self discipline in various ways.

You can support your students or employees by:

• Provide a designated clean space for prayer up to 5 times a day

• Provide an alternative space for students during lunch classroom, library, or office

• Acommodate schedule changes for prayer. Check out online reliable sources for times of pray throughout the year

• facilitate low-intensity p.e. classes or activities. Students are not drinking or eating throughout the day.

• Help students and employees take Eid day off without penalties. You can find Eid timing info here or you can ask students to inform you about timing.

• Allow private bathroom use if requested for 5-10 minutes at a time. Students practice a unique wash ritual that involves various parts of the body and will not be able to perform this ritual in the presence of the opposite biological sex.

Ramadan is a special , holy month of worship and fasting from dawn to sunset. As a school, or place of employment you can help make a difference in the lives of Muslim students/employees during this holy month.
